I know there are a lot of haters out there about the NBA and how "boring" it is compared to NCAA ball and March Madness. For the most part I would have to agree with you. March Madness is awesome and the excitement is through the roof. But I am here to play devils advocate for the NBA and stick up for these old men and their lac luster style of play. If you have been watching any of the NBA playoffs this year you have seen some excellent games with the greatest basketball players on the planet.
One has to really appreciate the way experienced teams play and the way they win not only games but championships. Take the Celtics for instance, at the beginning of their series with the Orlando Magic nobody thought they would win. The Magic have more talent, are younger, and have better all around athletes. But you have to look deeper why Boston is going to win this series and get to another championship series. They are essentially taking Dwight Howard out of his game and making his teammates step up and beat them... which they are not doing. Taking star players out of the a equation is what teams strive to do all the time...Example...Look at the Detroit Pistons in the 80's against the great Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. The Pistons and their crafty veterans took Jordan out of his game and it took him and the Bulls years to get past them in the playoffs.
Switching gears a bit...I am a huge Suns fan at heart and obviously find them to be (along with Cleveland) the most exciting team to watch by leaps and bounds. Watching Steve Nash operate on the floor and make all of his teammates better is priceless. Just had to throw in my 2 cents there.
So to the people that hate on the NBA, don't be so quick to judge. Learn about the players, understand the technique and style of play, then you should be able to appreciate what they do and the format they do it in. On the other hand you will probably never catch me watching the Washington Wizards vs the Toronto Raptors any time soon.
In closing David Stern should give a huge thank you and bonus check to the individuals and players that truly represent the NBA and make it what it is today. Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Dewayne Wade, Tim Duncan, Lebron James, Chris Paul, the list goes on obviously, my point being if the league didn't have these star players representing the NBA and what it should stand for there would be no league at all.
